A Taste of Sunshine: Blueberry Pineapple Matcha Latte

This vibrant and refreshing latte is like a tropical vacation in a glass. The sweet, juicy blueberry layer, creamy pineapple milk, and vibrant matcha create a beautiful layered drink that's almost too pretty to drink. Almost.

Ingredients

Servings: 1

Blueberry Layer

  • ¼ cup fresh or frozen blueberries

  • 1 tsp honey or sugar (optional, adjust to taste)

  • 2 tbsp hot water

Pineapple Layer

  • ½ cup pineapple juice (fresh or store-bought)

  • ¼ cup milk of choice (dairy or plant-based)

  • Ice cubes

Matcha Layer

  • 1 tsp Nippon matcha powder

  • 2–3 tbsp hot water (80°C / 176°F)

Instructions

  1. Make the Blueberry Base: In your serving glass, muddle the blueberries with hot water until they release their juices. Stir in honey or sugar if you like. You can strain the mixture for a smooth texture or leave it chunky for little bursts of fruit.

  2. Prepare the Pineapple Milk: In a separate cup, whisk together the pineapple juice and milk. Fill the serving glass (over the blueberry layer) about halfway with ice cubes, then carefully pour the pineapple milk mixture over the ice.

  3. Whisk the Matcha: Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl. Add the hot water and whisk vigorously in a zig-zag motion until the powder is fully dissolved and a frothy layer forms on top.

  4. Layer the Drink: To create the beautiful layered effect, slowly and gently pour the whisked matcha over the back of a spoon onto the pineapple layer.

  5. Serve and Enjoy: You can either enjoy this layered masterpiece as-is for a stunning Instagram-worthy drink, or give it a good stir to combine all the flavors for a delicious, tropical-fruity matcha explosion.

Pro Tips

  • For the Perfect Layers: The secret to clean, distinct layers is a slow and steady pour. Using the back of a spoon helps to gently disperse the liquid over the previous layer without disturbing it.

  • Choosing Your Matcha: For the best flavor and color, opt for ceremonial-grade matcha powder. Culinary-grade matcha will work, but may result in a slightly more bitter taste and less vibrant green color.

  • Temperature Matters: Be mindful of the water temperature for your matcha. Water that's too hot can scorch the matcha, making it taste bitter. The ideal range is around 80°C (176°F).

  • Sweetness to Your Liking: The sweetness of this drink is highly customizable. Adjust the amount of honey or sugar in the blueberry layer and use a sweeter pineapple juice if you prefer a more dessert-like drink.
